i wanna be friends with you.

[disclaimer: this was my first-ever contact with my mentor…and the following instances of contact were orchestrated over the course of several weeks, but i’ve kinda condensed them-ish]

Hej Thomas-
My name is Lindsey Sharp- I’m a 3rd year student in the Industrial Design program in the College of Architecture at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. I’ve just returned from a semester-long study abroad program in Lund at the university’s Ingvar Kamprad Design Centrum, and I’m really interested in continuing to learn about design in Sweden. While studying in Sweden, I saw a number of your designs there, but also when traveling to Amsterdam, I saw some of your work in Droog. I really admire your sense of aesthetics and your attention to detail and function when approaching design…a class I’m now taking in Atlanta requires that I find a designer who inspires me to help to “mentor” me as I work through my designs for the remainder of this semester. If you would be interested in mentoring me for this class, I think I could really learn a great deal from any advice you might be able to lend.
Basically, all that this will demand of you is that we’ll email back-and-forth a couple of times a week…just to discuss what you do, or what your design philosophy is…things along those lines. In any case, I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate your design aesthetic, and even if you don’t think you’ll have the time to be my ‘mentor,’ I’ll continue to follow your work. Thank you for your time and consideration! Hej då!
Sincerely,
Lindsey G. Sharp
